One U.S. gold dollar coin, Type 1 variety, dated a random year between 1849-1854. Each coin is in Extremely Fine or better condition, with light wear and no damage (see pictures for example).

The obverse side of the coin features Lady Liberty, while the reverse side features a wreath and the coin's denomination. These were the smallest U.S. coins ever produced, measuring only 12.7mm in diameter (for context, a dime measures 17.9mm).

Up until 1933, when President Roosevelt demonetized all gold coins, the U.S. produced gold coins in denominations ranging from $1 up to $20. This dollar coin contained an amount of gold equivalent to roughly $1.00 at the time it was minted. With the price of gold now at nearly $2000 an ounce, a modern one dollar gold coin would be about 1/100th the size of this one to contain the same value of gold.

Specifications: Each coin measures 12.7mm in diameter (same as a modern nickel), weighs 1.7g, and is made of .900 fine gold. Each coin will be shipped in a archival-quality mylar flip, secured in a corrugated cardboard safety mailer by Original Skin Coins. If you have any questions about the coin, please contact us (Original Skin Coins) and we will respond within 24 hours.
